Tom MacConnell
Consultant Cardiologist, Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton

Tom trained in general medicine and cardiology in Glasgow and Bristol before taking up a consultant post at Musgrove Park Hospital in 1995. He is part of a multidisciplinary team which cares for patients with angina and heart failure to the highest national standards.

As clinical lead, he introduced coronary angioplasty (a procedure used to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries) to Somerset in 2001. Since 2009 this service includes a primary angioplasty service treating patients with heart attacks on a 24/7 basis.

His other interests include end of life care and he was a member of the Somerset Marie Curie Choice project executive board from 2009 to 2011. Tom was also the training programme director for cardiology in the Severn Deanery from 2000-2007.
