Senior Commissioning Officer in Adults and Health, Somerset County Council
Iona has worked for SCC for the past 19 years in a variety of roles, from managing volunteer services and day services to community development. She has written the Council’s Market Position Statement for Adult Social Care, and has designed a live web-based Local Account for Adult Social Care. She has a keen interest in market shaping and sustainable, innovative solutions to care and support in rural areas. Last year, Iona commissioned a Micro Enterprise project to support the development of micro-care and support services in Somerset. This project has supported the development of more than 40 care and support services and has supported the development of a network of over 200 micro enterprises.
Iona is also excited by opportunities for outcomes-based commissioning and has recently moved to this model with Head Injury Services. She is currently involved in the re-commissioning of Homecare in Somerset alongside developing a community building strategy.
Iona feels that the challenges for meeting an increasing demand for care and support affects every service and many lives from service user to carer to family. She sees the Fit for Future review as an opportunity to share skills and ideas and develop new ways of integrating support and care that goes beyond our workforce, to change current expectations.
