Dr Ian Kelham
Ian has been a GP since 1983, working in Porlock for nearly 20 years. He is also an Associate Medical Director for NHS England South one day a week. He also has a charity, Friends of Porlock Surgery which employs a nurse to support palliative care patients at home over and above the care the St. Margaret’s team offer. Porlock has the highest age demographic in Somerset with 20% of patients being over 75, which means he does a lot of palliative care and achieves a death at home rate of 30% and a further 31% die in a nursing home/care home; the hospital death rate is a low 31%. Ian worked on the Marie Curie Cancer Care review a few years ago and remains passionate about high class palliative care.
